FHKI and FMM sign MoU to Bolster Business Synergy and Foster Enhanced Collaboration
The Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI) and the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), heralding a significant step forward in solidifying business relations and fostering mutual cooperation between Hong Kong and Malaysia. The MoU was signed during the high-level delegation visit, led by our HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee, to three member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), namely, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia earlier this week (23 to 29 July).
One of the highlights of this mission trip is a formal business luncheon, organised under the auspices of the HKSAR Government and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council in Kuala Lumpur today. In the presence of HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee and the Malaysian Minister of Transport Anthony Loke Siew Fook, FHKI Chairman Dr Sunny Chai and FMM President Soh Thian Lai affirmed their commitment towards closer collaboration in future business endeavours, marking a new chapter of a formal strategic partnership between the two organisations.
The MOU serves as a framework for mutual cooperation between FHKI and FMM, with the aim to propel industrial development and reinforce mutual understanding and alliances among business communities of both regions. This strategic partnership promises mutual prosperity through broad exchange and cooperation in diverse fields ranging from economy, business, trade, human resource management to sustainable growth.
Hong Kong and Malaysia share a robust bilateral trade relationship, with Malaysia standing as Hong Kong's third-largest trading partner among the ten ASEAN countries. Dr Sunny Chai welcomed the Malaysia Government's extension of the visa-free entry period for HKSAR passport holders to a maximum of 90 days. He commented, “Malaysia's influential role within ASEAN makes it a key partner. If the HKSAR Government establishes an Economic and Trade Office in Malaysia, it would definitely facilitate investment opportunities for Hong Kong businesses in the Malaysian market. This MoU will undoubtedly open doors for strategic collaboration in industry, trade, innovation and technology, sustainable development and beyond, elevating our partnership to newer heights.”
During this trip, Dr Sunny Chai and other delegates engaged with a number of political and business leaders, visited local enterprises and major infrastructure projects. Dr Sunny Chai expressed, "The ASEAN region brims with immense developmental potential. It has always been a preferred destination for Hong Kong manufacturers to expand production lines beyond their bases in the Mainland. If Hong Kong successfully joins the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), Hong Kong’s integration into the regional industrial chain will be greatly enhanced. This will not only benefit Hong Kong businesses by strengthening their supply chain ecosystem but also facilitating them to expand into ASEAN markets. This mission visit is timely in facilitating Hong Kong enterprises to capture business opportunities in the region and, in particular, promoting Hong Kong brands, high-quality products and services to a broader and more dynamic audience."
