FHKI Exchanges MoU with Uzbekistan from Delegation Visit
Thrilled by the Fruitful Results in Central Asia
Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI) Chairman Anthony Lam accompanied the HKSAR business delegation, led by Chief Executive John Lee, on a recently concluded visit to Central Asia. At a business networking dinner on 4 June, FHKI exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tashkent City Municipality, the governing authority of the capital of Uzbekistan, pledging to deepen cooperation in new industrialisation, industrial upgrading, and trade and economic exchanges.
The MoU exchange between Chairman Lam and Deputy Mayor of Tashkent City Municipality Sharof Rakhmanov took place under the witness of Chief Executive John Lee. Under the agreement, both parties will forge closer cooperative ties in trade and economic, human resources management, and sustainable development. This collaboration paves the way for new opportunities between Hong Kong and Uzbekistan in the development of industrial parks, new industrialisation, and trade and economic development.
Chairman Lam expressed great optimism for these new partnerships, noting how encouraging it was to conclude the Central Asian tour with two MoUs secured with local government departments. Reflecting on the visit, he stated, "Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan serve as the economic engines of Central Asia. Their recent push towards industrial upgrading, artificial intelligence, and the digital economy aligns perfectly with FHKI’s vision. Furthermore, their rich mineral and gold reserves offer tremendous opportunities for Hong Kong to expand its commodity trading sector. By leveraging the combined strengths of Hong Kong businesses, professional services, and Mainland enterprises, this delegation has forged new pathways for collaboration between Hong Kong and Central Asia. This establishes a robust foundation for long-term economic and trade ties, reinforcing Hong Kong’s unique position as a 'super connector' and 'super value-adder'."
While in Uzbekistan, the delegation met with Prime Minister Abdulla Nigmatovich Aripov. Chairman Lam shared the Federation’s expertise, highlighting the vast potential for future collaboration in industrial upgrading and new industrialisation. He also outlined Hong Kong’s advantages and the FHKI Global Connect platform, inviting Uzbek enterprises to leverage FHKI’s extensive network and professional services to use Hong Kong as a springboard for international expansion. Additionally, the delegation held in-depth discussions with Sarvar Khamidov, Deputy Advisor to the Uzbek President on Strategic Development, as well as other local industry leaders.
Chairman Lam was thrilled by the successful engagements between the delegation and high-level government and business leaders in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. He was particularly encouraged by the 96 MoUs signed during the mission, which pave the way for robust cooperation between Hong Kong and Central Asia across trade, finance, and industry. Furthermore, he strongly welcomed the mutual visa-free arrangement between the HKSAR and Uzbekistan governments, as well as the agreement to establish direct flight routes with Kazakhstan. These milestones will significantly boost cultural and economic ties, enabling Hong Kong to expand its regional footprint and cultivate new growth drivers, such as the Halal industry. Moving forward, FHKI will continue to leverage its Global Connect platform to showcase Hong Kong’s strengths to Central Asian nations and other emerging markets, actively driving high-quality economic development through deeper regional collaboration.
