Federation of Hong Kong Industries (“FHKI”) today (19 November) is pleased to announce its partnership with City University of Hong Kong (“CityU”) to drive the continuous growth of R&D and business talent in Hong Kong.

The GREAT (Global Research Enrichment and Technopreneurship) Programme, launched by CityU hot-off-the-press, emphasised students’ self-motivation.  Further to the essential science courses in year 1, undergraduates in their year 2 of studies may choose one of the GREAT streams from Department of Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics to start their independence scientific research studies and entrepreneurship training.  They could also benefit from a diverse range of internship and placement opportunities provided by overseas and local tech ventures, under the umbrella of FHKI’s corporate network.  By integrating novel science knowledge and innovative technology, the GREAT Programme stands to upskill students with business 101 fundamentals as well as hands-on vocational experience, covering patent applications and knowledge of intellectual property rights, entrepreneurship, business planning and so forth.  With an extensive network composed of over 2,400 corporate members across 32 industry groups, FHKI is primed to tie-up students with best-of-breed industrialists to help them make the most out of their incumbencies.

Dr Daniel Yip, Chairman of FHKI said, “FHKI is excited to play a significant role in the GREAT Programme.  With a balanced blend of theoretical and practical components, the Programme will not only serve as a cradle for holistic talent development, but also drive industry-university knowledge transfer and sharing.  In addition, technology startups may also translate students’ ingenuity into products with commercial viabilities through ongoing cross-disciplinary exchange and collaborations.”

Dr Yip added, “As an economically vibrant hub in China, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) now offers many infrastructural, business, financial and trading advantages for connecting world markets, alongside advanced industrial production capabilities.  I look forward to seeing students in the GREAT Programme gain invaluable insights, cultivate terrific business acumen, and seize quality internship/placement opportunities therein.”

Mr Bryant Chan, Chairman of Education Committee remarked, “Talent is at the heart of every business, and scaling the deep pool of talent is one of the top priorities in the pandemic-stricken economy to sustain the growth momentum.  As Hong Kong is paving the way for re-industrialisation, we aspire the Programme to create a soft-landing for students in pursuit of further scientific research or incorporating business ventures, thereby aligning with our mission of reinventing Hong Kong industries.”
