FHKI and NAMI Signed MoU to Explore Nanotechnology Product Certification and Jointly Promote the Silver Economy

Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI) and the Nano and Advanced Materials Institute (NAMI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the NAMI symposium “Smart Aging – Advancing Technology for a Thriving Silver Economy”. The parties will jointly explore a certification scheme for products utilising nanotechnology and cooperate in promoting technologies related to the silver economy.

Witnessed by Under Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Dr Bernard Chan; FHKI Chairman Anthony Lam; and NAMI’s Chairwoman of the Board of Directors Prof Cheng Shuk Han, the MoU was signed by FHKI Deputy Chairman Karen Chan, and NAMI Chief Executive Director Andy Fung. The collaboration aims to foster knowledge exchange, policy advocacy, and industry development. The parties will explore various opportunities for cooperation, with a particular focus on establishing a NanoVerify scheme through FHKI's Hong Kong Q-Mark Council. They will also organise networking, exchange, and consultation activities on a regular basis to share human resources, experience, and information required for promoting technologies related to the silver economy.

FHKI Chairman Anthony Lam highlighted the immense potential of the silver economy and its related industries, driven by an ageing population with sustained spending power both in Hong Kong and globally. He expressed his hope that this collaboration will lay a solid foundation for the development of relevant technologies and industries, stating, "It is projected that by 2043, one in three people in Hong Kong will be elderly. There is an urgent need to develop and introduce high-quality products tailored for this demographic. Nanotechnology can enhance a wide range of products for the elderly and support the development of new ones, ensuring their quality of life. Through this partnership, we look forward to working with NAMI to support the industry in elevating product and service standards, which will in turn build greater confidence among seniors and unlock their consumer potential."

Andy Fung, Chief Executive Director of NAMI, stated, “We are honored to sign this Memorandum of Understanding with the Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI). The Parties will collaborate on knowledge exchange, professional development, and industry promotion. By exchanging ideas and organizing regular events, we aim to advance technologies related to construction, nanomaterials, and the silver economy. This partnership will enhance resource sharing, foster innovation, and promote sustainable growth, creating broader opportunities for Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. NAMI looks forward to working closely with FHKI to build a win-win ecosystem and expand international cooperation.”

FHKI Vice Chairman and Chairman of Hong Kong Q-Mark Council Karen Chan highlighted, “Nanotechnology is good for enhancing the quality and effectiveness of products for seniors. We look forward to establishing a certification scheme for nanotechnology products to encourage the industry to develop and produce more high-quality products and expand business opportunities.”
