FHKI Leadership Met with Chief Executive to Present Recommendations for
the 2025 Policy Address
Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI) met with HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee today (7 August) to exchange views and put forward a range of proposals for the 2025 Policy Address. Other government officials were also in attendance, including Algernon Yau, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development; Carol Yip, Director of the Chief Executive’s Office, and Dr Stephen Wong, Head of the Chief Executive’s Policy Unit; etc.
FHKI Chairman Dr Steve Chuang thanked the Chief Executive for arranging the meeting to hear the perspectives of FHKI and the wider industrial sector. "Today's discussion with the Chief Executive was conducted with candour and depth," he said. "FHKI deeply appreciates the Government’s determination to advance innovation and technology and to drive social and economic progress. Representing Hong Kong's industrialists, FHKI will continue to actively leverage our role as a 'super-connector' to help the industry tap into new markets along the Belt and Road and to promote the continued upgrading and transformation of Hong Kong's industries, thereby consolidating the city's advantages and competitiveness."
During the meeting, FHKI representatives elaborated on the policy initiatives proposed for the upcoming Policy Address. Earlier this month, FHKI submitted its formal recommendations, suggesting that the Government focus on cultivating new drivers for economic growth in three main areas: “Innovation and Entrepreneurship”, “Economic Advancement and Sustainability” and “Regional and Global Collaboration”. Specific measures proposed include promoting the silver economy, supporting businesses to develop the halal market, and continuing to assist SMEs through various funding schemes to enhance economic diversity and competitiveness. Furthermore, FHKI proposed the establishment of a "Northern Metropolis I&T Industry Development Authority". This statutory body would be tasked with accelerating the development of the Northern Metropolis by managing its land use, investment promotion, talent policies, and industrial development. The full submission can be downloaded here. They also introduced recent FHKI research reports, including "Made by Hong Kong: A Strategy for New Industrialisation" and "Soaring into Space: Exploring the Industrial Opportunities of the New Space Economy for Hong Kong".
