FHKI Joins HKSAR Business Delegation to Central Asia
Exchanges MoU in Kazakhstan to Drive New Industrialisation and Digital Economy

Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI) Chairman Anthony Lam is participating in a business delegation to Central Asia led by Chief Executive John Lee. During the visit to Kazakhstan, FHKI officially exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan (MAIDD). The MoU establishes a formal cooperation framework aimed at fostering business exchange and synergistic development in new industrialisation, artificial intelligence, and digital economy between the two regions.

The exchange ceremony took place at a business and networking luncheon hosted by the HKSAR Government and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. Witnessed by Chief Executive John Lee, FHKI Chairman Anthony Lam and MAIDD Vice Minister Bakhtiyar Mukhametkaliyev exchanged the MoU, marking a new milestone in innovation, technology, and industrial collaboration between Hong Kong and Kazakhstan.

Under the MoU, both parties will collaborate across key areas including the economic, trade, human resources and sustainable development. They will jointly organise events to facilitate the regular exchange of experience and knowledge. Furthermore, both sides will encourage bilateral trade and investment activities, deepening economic ties and jointly promoting the high-quality development of advanced sectors such as new industrialisation, artificial intelligence, and digital technologies.

“Kazakhstan is an economic powerhouse in Central Asia. Its recent acceleration of economic reforms is creating unprecedented opportunities for Hong Kong’s businesses. Hong Kong not only offers world-class financial and business networks alongside professional services to meet local demands, but our two regions can also deeply integrate in emerging fields such as advanced technology, the digital economy, and commodity supply chains. FHKI firmly believes this visit will further leverage Hong Kong’s unique role as a two-way platform for “bringing in and going global”, enabling industries from both places to seize enormous business opportunities and jointly drive the high-quality development of new industrialisation,” Chairman Lam highlighted.

In addition, the delegation participated in a roundtable forum on economic development, trade, and investment opportunities yesterday (1 June), engaging in in-depth discussions with the Kazakh Invest and the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs “Atameken”. Invited to speak at the forum, Chairman Lam outlined Hong Kong’s industry strengths and potential collaborative opportunities with Kazakhstan to local political and business leaders. He also introduced the Federation’s “Global Connect” services, aiming to forge closer ties with the local business community and lay the groundwork for long-term collaboration.

Chairman Lam departed Central Asia with the HKSAR business delegation on Sunday (31 May). During their stay, they visited the Astana Hub and the Astana International Financial Centre, and met with various local institutions, banks, and enterprises. The delegation will shortly proceed to Uzbekistan to continue their official visit.
