FHKI Fully Supports Government’s “Silver Economy” Initiatives
Launching “Silver Q-Mark” Certification Scheme for Elderly Products Next Year
Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI) welcomes the series of “Silver Economy” initiatives announced today (27 May) by the HKSAR “Working Group on Promoting Silver Economy”. FHKI believes these new initiatives will further unleash the consumption power of the elderly, safeguard their rights and interests, and enhance their quality of life. In line with the Government’s promotion of “quality assurance of silver products”, the Hong Kong Q-Mark Council under FHKI is preparing to launch a new certification scheme, named the “Silver Q-Mark”. This scheme will certify elderly products, including food, daily necessities, and gerontechnology items. FHKI is actively engaging with the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau (CEDB) and other stakeholders to discuss the details of the scheme, including certification standards, methodologies and the range of product categories covered. The “Silver Q-Mark” certification scheme is expected to be officially launched in the second half of next year.
FHKI Chairman Dr Steve Chuang sees enormous potential in Hong Kong’s silver economy, “Currently, 22% of Hong Kong’s population – about 1.64 million people – are aged 65 or above. As our population continues to age, elderly consumers demonstrate strong spending power and an increasing demand for high-quality products and services. The silver market not only brings new economic opportunities, but also drives the upgrading and transformation of related industries. This, in turn, improves the quality of life for the elderly and promotes the overall development of society.”
FHKI Executive Deputy Chairman and Hong Kong Q-Mark Council Chairman Anthony Lam hopes the “Silver Q-Mark” will promote the sustainable and robust development of Hong Kong’s silver economy, “The ‘Silver Q-Mark’ is designed to give elderly consumers and their families greater confidence when purchasing high-quality elderly products. Through authoritative certification, we encourage the industry to enhance product design and manufacturing standards, promote the healthy growth of the silver market, and further strengthen Hong Kong’s position as a hub for quality product certification.”
Hong Kong boasts strong design and R&D capabilities and is a leader in product innovation. FHKI encourages the business sector to actively participate in the development of the silver industry, and to promote elderly products and related industry chains to neighbouring regions and cities. FHKI will continue to maintain close communication with all stakeholders to foster the development of the silver economy and industry.
