FHKI Delegation Concludes Visit to Malaysia and Singapore
Forging Industry, Innovation and Financial Partnerships to Support ASEAN Market Expansion

Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI) has concluded its five-day mission (20 to 24 September) to Malaysia and Singapore. During the Singapore leg of the visit, the delegation was received by Cao Zhongming, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Singapore, and met with representatives from the Singapore International Chamber of Commerce (SICC) and DBS Bank to exchange views on the development of Hong Kong’s Northern Metropolis and innovation and technology, business expansion into ASEAN markets, cross-border financial cooperation, and other issues.

Summarising the five-day mission, FHKI Chairman Anthony Lam said, “Amid the growing uncertainty in the global economic and trade environment, rising protectionism, and ongoing supply chain adjustments, Hong Kong, as a highly export-oriented economy, requires enterprises to be more flexible and enhance resilience to expand into diversified markets. ASEAN, with strong growth potential, is an important anchor for Hong Kong industry to develop markets and establish a regional cooperation network. This fruitful visit to Malaysia and Singapore allowed our members to gain first-hand understanding of the industrial development and business environment of the two countries, and to establish connections with the government, business and financial circles. The Federation will continue to deepen cooperation with the governments and industry and business sectors of the two places to support Hong Kong enterprises in strategically expanding into ASEAN markets.”

During the meeting with Ambassador Cao, Chairman Lam discussed the development opportunities that Hong Kong’s first Five-Year Plan offers to the industrial sector, and how the industry can align with the national development strategy to drive new industrialisation and industrial upgrading. The two sides also exchanged views on the participation of Hong Kong enterprises in regional economic cooperation and the development of the innovation and technology industry.

The delegation subsequently attended a business luncheon with SICC and representatives from local enterprises. FHKI and SICC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in April this year, laying the groundwork for business matching between enterprises in both regions. During the luncheon, participants exchanged views on a range of issues, including the complementary advantages of Hong Kong and Singapore in cooperation in supply chain management, innovation and technology, professional services and sustainable development. The delegation also visited the headquarters of DBS, where members met with senior executives to discuss financial and professional services, artificial intelligence, fintech, digital transformation and cross-border business expansion, helping Hong Kong enterprises better capture opportunities in ASEAN markets.

Before concluding the visit, the delegation participated in the luncheon seminar “Bridging Innovation – Navigating the AI & FinTech Landscape in Hong Kong”. Co-organised by FHKI, Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Singapore and the Kowloon Club Singapore, the seminar brought together around 100 prominent business leaders from Hong Kong and Singapore. In his opening remarks, Chairman Lam noted that Hong Kong and Singapore each possess unique strengths and can further strengthen two-way cooperation. This includes supporting Hong Kong enterprises in expanding into Singapore and other ASEAN markets, while welcoming ASEAN investors and industry players to Hong Kong to explore opportunities in innovation and technology and industrial development in the Northern Metropolis. He looks forward to closer business ties between the two places and more concrete collaboration opportunities.

The mission is sponsored by DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Limited, the exclusive “FHKI ASEAN Banking Partner”, with the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) serving as Strategic Innovation Partner. The 27-member delegation was led by FHKI Chairman Anthony Lam, the delegation comprises Executive Deputy Chairmen Ricky Chan, Clara Chan; Legislative Council Member for Industrial (First) Hon Ray Wong; Deputy Chairmen Prof Karen Chan, Jackie Ng and Dr Alfred Ng; Director-General Bonnie Chan; and enterprise representatives from I&T, advanced manufacturing, green technology, financial services and professional services.
