Continuing to Lead and Amplify Hong Kong’s New Industrialisation
FHKI Celebrates its 64th Annual General Meeting and Luncheon

The Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI) hosted its 64th AGM and Luncheon today (6 August). The event was graced by the presence of the Chief Executive of the HKSAR, John Lee, serving as the Guest-of-Honour. Also in attendance were the Director-General of the Coordination Department at the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, Zhu Wen, along with Secretaries from various SAR Government bureaus, representatives from government departments, and friendly organisations, totalling over 450 distinguished guests. FHKI Chairman Steve Chuang expressed his extreme appreciation for the Government and community’s steadfast support of the industry in his remarks. He highlighted the FHKI’s dedication to leading the sector in embracing and advancing Hong Kong’s new industrialisation, fostering new quality productive forces, and propelling Hong Kong’s economy and industrial sector to new heights.

During the event, Chief Executive John Lee applauded the Federation’s ongoing contributions to bolster Hong Kong’s industrial and business development. He noted, “The FHKI has consistently led in promoting I&T and new industrialisation, harnessing the collective strength of the industry and leveraging international networks to boost Hong Kong’s new quality productive forces.” He emphasised the critical roles of talent, capital, and enterprises in driving Hong Kong’s development. Lee stated that both local and international investors and talents have strong confidence in Hong Kong’s business and social environment. He also shared insights from his last week’s delegation visit to three ASEAN countries, which reaffirmed their support for Hong Kong’s accession to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), significantly boosting Hong Kong’s future development prospects within ASEAN.

Reflecting on the past year, FHKI Chairman Steve Chuang remarked on the significance of utilising Hong Kong’s strengths to uncover new business opportunities amidst various challenges. He stated, “Despite the global economic slowdown, geopolitical tensions, and financial market fluctuations adding layers of uncertainty to our development, the FHKI remains optimistic about the future, believing it holds more opportunities than challenges. Hong Kong must play its part effectively as a ‘super-connector’ and ‘super value-adder’, capitalising on its advantages of ‘enjoying strong support of the Motherland and being closely connected to the world’. This involves not only in solidifying our presence in traditional Western markets but also seeking new partnerships and markets.”

Chairman Chuang also summarised the FHKI’s accomplishments over the past year, which included (1) promoting I&T development and new industrialisation; (2) reinforcing Hong Kong's status as an international financial, shipping, and trade centre; (3) nurturing high-end talents; and (4) deepening cooperation within the Greater Bay Area. Through a robust network of 33 industry groups and 1,300 events throughout the year, the FHKI played a crucial role in engaging and encouraging the industry to participate in and drive the development of new industrialisation and new quality productivity forces in Hong Kong. The FHKI has also been proactive in advising the Government on strategies for innovative transformation, aiming to propel Hong Kong towards becoming an international I&T centre.

Following the Chief Executive’s recent delegation visit to Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam, Chairman Chuang announced upcoming FHKI delegations to Chongqing and Chengdu later this month, and to the Middle East in December, tirelessly supporting the industrial and business communities in expanding opportunities in the Mainland and along Belt and Road countries. Looking forward, the FHKI is set to promoting new industrialisation and assisting SMEs in adopting Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles to enhance their competitiveness.

As the FHKI approaches its 65th anniversary next year, Chairman Chuang sees this period as a critical moment of transformation for Hong Kong's economy. With the support of our motherland and the leadership of the SAR Government, the FHKI is committed to upholding its legacy of success, uniting the industry to collectively advance the grand vision of “Reinventing Hong Kong Industries”, and taking Hong Kong’s economy and industrial sector to unprecedented levels.
