To Recognise Achievements of Local Startup Rising Stars in Harnessing GBA Opportunities
The Federation of Hong Kong Industries ("FHKI") announced the launch of the first Hong Kong Innopreneur Awards (the “Awards) today (6 April). With HSBC as title sponsor, the Awards aims to endorse and honour forward-looking and promising startup founders who have attained breakthrough innovation in their businesses and commit to bringing positive impacts to the society. The Awards is open for nomination from today to 20 May. Winners of the eight award categories will be selected by leading figures from political, business, industrial and startup sectors.
The Honourable Mrs Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of HKSAR officiated the launch of Awards. She said, “Hong Kong people, especially the younger generation, are incredibly strong in entrepreneurial spirit and full of innovative ideas. Our vibrant startup ecosystem, comprising excellent business environment, simple tax system and strong government support, creates favourable conditions for entrepreneurs to give full play. I am pleased to know that FHKI sets up the Hong Kong Innopreneur Awards to recognise entrepreneurial achievements and inspire future leaders with visionary ideas to achieve business success.”
Dr Sunny Chai, Chairman of FHKI and the Honorary Chairman of the Awards’ Judging Panel, envisions the Awards to motivate local entrepreneurs to pursue innovations and social impact, that will bring them to success in the Greater Bay Area and global arenas. “As an international I&T hub, Hong Kong is a fertile ground for innovative businesses with strong R&D capabilities, talents and policy facilitation. This Awards will not only commend the remarkable achievements of entrepreneurs, but also serve as a platform for industry leaders to exchange insights and collaborate for greater success. Riding on the growth momentum and strong industrial foundation of the Greater Bay Area, we anticipate entrepreneurs to break new business grounds and inject growth impetus to Hong Kong’s I&T and industry-related sectors,” said Dr Chai.
The Awards welcome any founder or co-founder of companies engaging in innovation-related businesses to join. Besides judging criteria like technology innovation, breakthrough, scalability and social impact, the Awards also attaches great importance to the business growth potential in Greater Bay Area and global markets. A number of special award categories have been set up to recognise achievements in specific fields, such as the “Excellence in Research Application Award” for collaborative R&D innovation with academic institutions, “GBA+ Award” for ground-breaking achievements in the Greater Bay Area, and the “ESG Award” for entrepreneurs who demonstrate strong impact in sustainability and social responsibility.
