Led by FHKI Group 10 (Hong Kong Furniture Council) Chairman Karen Chan, the council organised a visit to HK TIMBERBANK, which attracted around 30 members from Group 10, Young Executive Council, Design Council as well as other groups to join. Ricci Wong, the founder of HK TIMBERBANK, demonstrated how to turn waste trees into eco-friendly and stylish furniture by cutting, drying and polishing process.
The Super Typhoon Mangkhut in 2018 knocked down 6,000 trees, which increased the burden of landfills. The members of HK TIMBERBANK set up an 8,000 feet factory in Yuen Long, where waste trees are recycled and turned into furniture pieces by applying “R3” concepts (Recycle, Redesign, Relink). Meanwhile, they hope to convey their knowledge of trees and environmental protection concepts to the next generations through some workshops.
