Jimmy Kwok elected as Chairman of Federation of Hong Kong Industries

The new term General Committee (2017-2019) of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI) elected Jimmy Kwok as Chairman at its first meeting held today (Monday). Prof Eric Yim, Dr Daniel Yip, Dr Jack Yeung, Dr Sunny Chai and Sunny Tan were elected as Deputy Chairmen.

At a press conference held after the election, new Chairman Jimmy Kwok briefed the media on FHKI’s work plans for the ensuing term. The FHKI will focus on three areas, namely further encouraging innovation and technology and re-industrialisation; promoting B2B and B2C business opportunities; and grasping the business opportunities brought by Belt and Road and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area development strategies.

“Re-industrialisation is an important development strategy for economically developing countries worldwide, and that innovation and technology can serve to spearhead economic progress by developing high-end manufacturing industries. As several representatives from FHKI have been appointed to sit on the Committee on Innovation, Technology and Re-industrialisation, we will continue to voice the industries’ suggestions and concerns to the Government. Besides, we are going to conduct a survey on members to collect data and information from their research and development (R&D) related activities so as to understand more on their R&D capabilities and their demand for technology and talent, in a bid to help enterprises in upgrading and transformation. Meanwhile, we are also considering to set up an innovation and technology platform mainly for matching purposes between experienced entrepreneurs and startups,” Mr Kwok said.

Mr Kwok also expressed the hope to expand the domestic market and foster trade exchanges through trade fairs. “We are well experienced in organising trade shows and exhibitions. Thus, we are able to help enterprises in promoting e-commerce and tapping into the Mainland market. In the future, we will be focusing our resources in the Mainland, in particular the Guangdong Province, and provide assistance for our members in the design and creative industry fields,” he added.

Riding on the Belt and Road Initiative and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Bay Area development strategies, Mr Kwok stressed the FHKI’s determination to work alongside these two projects. “For enhancing the communication between Hong Kong industries and the international stage, we have set up the International Affairs Committee last year. The Committee will probe for business opportunities along the Belt and Road countries and organise various events in the near future. In addition, we will maintain a close dialogue with the Government, in a bid to help industries open up domestic market and grasp new opportunities brought by the two projects,” he continued.
