FHKI’s PRD Council Prepares to Set Up the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development Committee

The PRD Council, under the auspices of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI), hosted the Inauguration Ceremony of 2017-2019 Standing Committee and Executive Committees yesterday. The newly-elected Chairman of the Council Dr Daniel Yip revealed that the FHKI is now preparing to set up the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development Committee to help local companies integrate into the development of the Bay Area.

Dr Yip said,“Hong Kong companies pay great attention to the planning and arrangement of the Bay Area. As the most international city within the region, Hong Kong not only benefits from the strength of ‘one country’ and the convenience of ‘two systems’, it also possesses vast advantages in both hardware and software. To facilitate the Bay Area development plan, the FHKI prepares to establish the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development Committee. Riding on the services network of the PRD Council, the Committee is dedicated to keep member companies abreast with latest policies and developments concerning the Bay Area.”

FHKI Chairman Jimmy Kwok opined that Hong Kong companies should capitalise on the development opportunities arising from the Bay Area. “The Bay Area gives important insights to businesses, as its development together with the Belt and Road Initiative will bring them new opportunities. The FHKI will give it our full support and strengthen our rapport with cities in the Bay Area and other countries and regions along the Belt and Road, so as to facilitate local companies to explore more potential markets and new investment opportunities,” he noted.

The Hon Jeffrey Lam, Honorary President of the Council also mentioned that the establishment of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development Committee would help facilitate a two-way co-operation between Hong Kong industries and the Bay Area.“The Council has set up its branches in 10 cities in the Guangdong Province. Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development Committee can establish effective communication channels between the FHKI and the Bay Area city clusters, help members discover new business opportunities and provide them with necessary support,” he said.

The new term of the PRD Council is chaired by Dr Daniel Yip, Deputy Chairman of FHKI and Managing Director of the G.E.W. International Corporation Ltd. FHKI Chairman Jimmy Kwok is the Council’s Honorary President. The Council’s Vice Chairmen include Glorious Sun Enterprises Ltd Vice Chairman and General Manager Fan Yeung, Sino Professional Ltd Chairman Dr Paul Yeung, Print-Rite Chairman Arnald Ho, Group Sense Ltd Chairman Dr Samson Tam, Cold Magic Efatar (HK) Co Ltd General Manager Dr Wendy Cheng and TK Holdings Chairman Li Pui-leung.

One major task of the Council is to establish close communication and contacts with both Guangdong and Hong Kong governments. Dr Yip expressed his sincere thanks to the government officials who attended the ceremony, including Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Patrick Nip, Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Dr Bernard Chan, Director General of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Guangdong Province Liao Jingshan and Director General of Port Administration Office in Guangdong Province Wu Jun. He hoped the Council would continue to work closely with the two governments in terms of political and commercial exchanges and synergy development.
