    Funded by the SME Development Fund of the Trade and Industry Department, HKSAR Government, “IoT Discovery – Visit to Midea & Real-Design Intelligence” was successfully held on 8 September 2017. Steve Chuang and Christopher Tse, Chairman and Vice Chairman of Hong Kong Electronics Industry Council (HKEIC, Group 5 of FHKI) led a delegation of 35 industry players to explore the development of IoT & wireless technologies in Midea and Real-Design Intelligence. 

    Midea is the leading global player in consumer appliance, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems and top ranked innovation organisation in the field of home appliances. During the visit to Midea, the delegation visited the factories of small domestic appliances and residential air conditioner, covering the production process of household appliance circuit boards, to know more about the advanced IoT products and technology R&D. Dr Chen Ting, Advance Research Group Leader of Midea, shared the information of Midea smart home system and solutions with the delegation.

    Real-Design Intelligence is one of the well-established enterprises which engage in technology research, developing and manufacturing household appliance controllers in mainland China. With 20 years experiences in electronics industry, the business of Real-Design Intelligence almost covers all kinds of household appliance controllers including water heater, intelligence toilet, rice cooker, etc. The delegation visited a fully automated production line to explore the product and technology development of household appliance controller. Hua Fang, Vice President and Director of R&D Center, demonstrated the smart home appliances, intelligent lighting, intelligent shade, intelligent security and intelligent entertainment systems in the intelligence showroom. 

    This visit is the last event under the funding project namely “Moving into the Internet of Things (IoT) and Wireless Era: Opportunities & Development of Hong Kong Electronics Industry”, co-organised by the FHKI and HKEIC.
