Local enterprises, particularly SMEs, are experiencing tremendous strain amid the current global financial turmoil. To provide insights that could assist in providing relief, the Economic Summit was successfully held on 9 December. It was funded by the Trade and Industry Department’s SME Development Fund and co-organised by the FHKI and Hong Kong Young Industrialists Council. Yvonne Choi, Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Commerce, Industry and Tourism), was the guest-of-honour.
Distinguished speakers including Joseph Lai, Director-General of Trade and Industry of the Trade and Industry Department; Walter Tse of the Hong Kong Export Credit Insurance Corporation; Marco Wong of the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Ltd; Johnny Wan of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council; Dr Zhang Xiaoji of the Development Research Center, State Council PRC; Victor Lo, Member of the Executive Council of HKSAR and Chairman and Chief Executive of Gold Peak Industries (Holdings) Ltd; Dr Helen Chan of Vita Green Health Products Company Ltd as well as Edmund Sung of the Hong Kong Productivity Council, were invited to share their valuable insights and thoughts on how SMEs could ride out the crisis. The Summit was well received with 500 participants.
