FAQs

1. What are the objectives of the PRD Council?
  The objectives of the Council are to promote regional economic development of Greater PRD, facilitate industrial and trade cooperation, and to provide services and support to Hong Kong companies with operations in the PRD.
   
2. What are the benefits of joining the Council? How can it help my business?
  The Council will set up local chapters in major PRD cities to offer tailor-made services to Hong Kong companies. The Council will help members operate their factories smoothly and solve problems they encounter effectively; look for new business opportunities; and enhance their operations' productivity and competitiveness.

What is the difference between the Council and the Federation?

  The PRD Council was established under the Federation of Hong Kong Industries to provide local services to members in PRD areas, while the Federation focuses on serving members in Hong Kong. Members of the Council will also be informed of the latest news and updated laws and regulations of their respective Local Chapters.

Where are the different local chapters?

 

The Council has established 6 chapters:

    What kinds of services and activities will be provided by the Council?

     
    (i) Handling enquiries;
    (ii) Providing advice to assist members in solving their problems;
    (iii) Arranging luncheons and dinners for members to network;
    (iv) Organizing "Face to Face meetings with government officials";
    (v) Providing business and technology matchmaking services, and compiling a database of universities and research centres in Hong Kong and PRD;
    (vi) Developing training courses (quality control, accounting, legal knowledge, factory supervisory skills, and English and business writing);
    (vii) Identifying appropriate conferences, exhibitions and trade fairs for members' participation;
    (viii) Posting regular eNewsletters/fax to members;
    (ix) Providing data/information on investments, such as government incentives, land and labour costs, social insurance, water and electricity charges etc.; and
    (x) Issuing letters to verify members' status to help their mainland employees apply for overseas visas.

    How does the Council differ from other local trade associations in China?

      Only companies that are registered under the Business Registration Ordinance of Hong Kong are eligible for membership of the Federation's PRD Council. Briefly, the Council caters for only Hong Kong companies, and provides useful and appropriate services for Hong Kong companies according to their needs.

    How does the Council operate, and what is its structure?

     

    The PRD Council has a Standing Committee which, assisted by the secretariat, maps out a development plan and direction for the Council. It has a Chairman and three Vice Chairmen. Each Local Chapter will have its own rep office, and the Conveners of the Local Chapters will collect the views of and provide a united voice for members of different chapters.

    How to join the Council, and what are the eligibilities?

     

    Any current Federation full member, or any company that is registered under the Business Registration Ordinance of Hong Kong, is eligible for membership of the Federation's PRD Council, subject to approval by the Federation's General Committee. Ex-Federation members wishing to join the PRD Council are not eligible until one year after their withdrawal from the Federation.

    9.

    What is meant by "extra Local Chapter"? What are the fees for joining the Council?

     

    Members may wish to join more than one Local Chapter, and they may fill in the section "extra local chapter" in the application form. The fees for joining are:
    *Federation members:
    Annual Fee - Free (eligible to choose one Local Chapter)
    Annual Additional Fee for joining each extra Local Chapter thereafter is free.

    #Non-Federation members:
    Annual Fee - HK$800 (eligible to choose one Local Chapter)
    Annual Additional Fee for joining each extra Local Chapter thereafter is free.

    Special Offer (from now until 31 March 2006)
    A special membership fee at HK$500 for this membership term.
