The Sustainable Industry Council was established in 2005 under the auspices of the FHKI, and its objective is to oversee the “One Factory–One Year–One Environmental Project” Programme (One-One-One Programme), to ensure the Programme will achieve its ultimate goal, and to provide technical advice and assistance where necessary.
Being conscious of environmental issues and the growing demand for environment-friendly production, the FHKI launched the One-One-One Programme to encourage manufacturers to conduct their operations cost effectively, and at the same time in manners contributory to environmental protection.
Through cooperation with the Hong Kong and Guangdong governments, environmental protection organisations and other business associations, the Council aims to balance the need between industrial development and preservation of the environment, to encourage rather than compel manufacturers in the PRD region to act in a responsible manner; to change the image of industry from “polluters” to responsible corporate citizens; and to capitalize on the growing demand for “green manufacturing”, thus creating business opportunities for industry operators. |
