Hong Kong exports a large variety of external and internal automobile parts and accessories, including signal lights, side mirrors, compressors, exhaust systems, audio and security systems. Many local enterprises are producing under their own brand names. Innovation continues to drive the industry as requirements on safety, environmental friendliness and value-added functions push product design and manufacturing to new levels.

The industry is relatively young and needs to increase investment in research and development. While the domestic market is small, there is massive potential in the Mainland market where car demands have steadily increased over the past decade. To capitalise on these opportunities, many Hong Kong enterprises have established joint ventures with Mainland and foreign companies to set up production facilities in the Mainland to supply this emerging market.
