The industry is losing competitiveness due to ever-increasing production cost; the surge of raw material cost, labour shortage and reduction of tax rebate are the major contributing factors. Brand development, innovation and quality upgrading are the only ways forward if enterprises are to stand out in the highly-competitive domestic and overseas markets.
Yet brand building is not easy and demands huge amount of capital to secure greater chances of success. I suggest the Government help capable enterprises to raise funds for brand development. In this respect, the FHKI should continue its role as the representative of the industry, reflecting our views to the Government.
