Against the changes brought about by the Eleventh Five-Year Plan, it is becoming more difficult for Hong Kong industrialists to operate in the PRD as many of our advantages have been eroded. Furthermore, the market is heating up as we directly compete with Mainland enterprises in the furniture manufacturing business.

With the intensifying competition, it is crucial to advance with quality in the Mainland market, and this is one area that Q-Mark can help greatly. We need to leverage and further build up Hong Kong’s reputation for quality goods if we are serious about successfully expanding into the Mainland market.

As such, I hope to see the FHKI continue with its active role in encouraging quality certification via the Q-Mark schemes especially in light of CEPA. Also, through the FHKI, we should explore how a Mainland sales network can be established.
