The industry is facing a price-conscious market where quality cannot be compromised. As land price, rent and minimum wages of workers in the Mainland continue to increase, it is difficult to keep the operating cost down. Power shortage and supply instability, coupled with the lack of talents with high language proficiency, have greatly affected our Mainland operation.
The performance of enterprises which provide processing service is highly dependent on their clients’ businesses, especially those OEM manufacturers. To outperform competitors, adopting different strategies and offering customers unique services are vital. Only when we are able to come up with ideas others have not considered, discover things others have not found and do what others are not able to do can we stand out in the market.
This traditional industry is now experiencing exponential growth, with the average growth rate stood at 17.7 per cent over the past seven years. Growth of the industry is indeed highly related to the world economy. It is estimated that an increase of RMB 100 million in GDP would push up demand for metal products by at least RMB 2.7 million.
With the rapid economic development of the Mainland and the recovery of the world’s economy, the industry will sustain its fast growth.
I hope that the FHKI can constantly collect opinions on problems facing the industries through the PRD Council, and continue to reflect the industries’ views to the Hong Kong and Mainland governments. I suggest that the PRD Council group together members of the same industry to facilitate exchange and sharing among industry members, thereby advancing Hong Kong industries.
