Building materials, as one of the oldest industries in human civilisation, continues to develop and play a crucial role in economic progress in Hong Kong and the PRD. Our position as the second group in the FHKI industry order is indicative of its history and significance to industrialisation. In the vibrancy of Hong Kong and the Mainland, the prospects of the industry are great. Yet we are looking at new technologies, techniques and materials to bring fresh opportunities to the industry and foster further growth.
The industry needs to bear in mind the building material standards that are being developed and implemented in the Mainland. As with other industries, the Mainland is the future, so it is in the interest of the industry to be familiar with prevailing standards and developments in the Mainland. Technology and design will impact on our industry, while traditional materials such as steel and concrete are still fundamental, we are at the same time moving towards glass and high-tech ‘new’ materials.
